Russia has a long history of genocide. Collectivization and famine during the Holodomor and Kazakh genocides, Stalin's political purges, and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan can all be classified as genocides of the 20th century. Russia under Putin has help perpetrate the war crimes brutal Assad regime in Syria, invaded and assisted in carrying out genocide in Abkhazia and Georgia, oppressed and unjustly imprisoned opposition and minority groups within Russia, and is currently carrying out the genocidal invasion of Ukraine in 2022-2023.
