Finding Oscar: Film Screening and Discussion

As a young boy, Oscar survived a mass killing in a Guatemalan village. Decades later, investigators try to locate him in an effort to uncover the truth about what happened and bring the perpetrators to justice. Join us for this film screening and discussion on November 8 at American University.

Wednesday, November 8 5:30 p.m. Claudio Grossman Hall Washington College of Law American University 4300 Nebraska Avenue, NW Washington, DC

In a mass killing during Guatemala’s civil war, soldiers murdered more than 200 people in the village of Dos Erres. Amidst the violence, they decided to spare the lives of two young boys, Oscar and Ramiro, and proceeded to raise them as their own. Decades later, investigators began trying to find Oscar to provide evidence of the army’s crimes. This documentary film by Ryan Suffern tells the story of this 1982 massacre and the relentless search for justice. Discussion to follow. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required atushmm.org/events/oscar.
