ou are cordially invited by the Institute for the Study of Genocide and the Cardozo Law Institute in Holocaust and Human Rights to the 2017 Lemkin Book Award Ceremony to honor this year's selected winner, Benjamin Madley's 'An American Genocide: The United States and the California Indian Catastrophe' (Yale, 2016). 2017 Raphael Lemkin Book Award Ceremony Tuesday, October 17, 2017 5 - 7 p.m. Third Floor Lounge Cardozo School of Law 55 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10003 The ceremony will include a public talk with Professor Madley, as well as a discussion led by Professor Karl Jacoby of Columbia University's Department of History and Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race. The biennial award is for the best nonfiction work that focuses on explanations of genocide, crimes against humanity, state mass killings and gross violations of human rights, and strategies to prevent such crimes and violations. The award committee chose 'An American Genocide' for its meticulous and exhaustive research, theoretical sophistication, and focus on bringing to light an important case of genocide that has received little attention in research and broader public discourse.
