Genocidal intent:Podcast Zarni, Stanton, Feierstein

The Question of "Intent" in Genocide In the first episode of the 2021 Free Rohingya Coalition Genocide Podcast Series, Gregory Stanton and Daniel Feierstein, the two past Presidents of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, will share their thoughts on the perennial question of INTENT in the Genocide Convention and discuss The Gambia vs Myanmar case at the International Court of Justice. The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide was the first international human rights treaty adopted by the UN General Assembly, which predated by one day the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Under this international treaty, all states are obligated not to commit genocide, although only 152 out of 194 states have ratified or acceded to the Convention. Over the past 70 years, the question of INTENT has plagued attempts to apply this law.
