World Without Genocide Webinar

World Without Genocide is hosting a webinar, “Preventing and Prosecuting Atrocity Crimes: Genocide, War Crimes, and Crimes Against Humanity” on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, from 7:00-9:00 pm CT. Register by 6:00 pm CT on July 20 at worldwithoutgenocide.org/anniversary

The worst crimes on the planet are known collectively as ‘atrocity crimes’ – genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. These crimes are occurring today in many places, including Ukraine, Ethiopia, Sudan, Myanmar, China, Afghanistan, and Syria.

How to prevent these crimes? Wes Rist, J.D., Deputy Executive Director at the American Society of International Law (ASIL), will speak about atrocity prevention in international law.

How to prosecute the perpetrators? Kristin Smith, J.D., Director of the Atrocity Crimes Initiative, will discuss responses to these crimes and accountability.

Accused perpetrators are brought to trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, the world’s most important court. The Court is celebrating twenty years of advancing justice for victims of atrocity crimes and ending impunity for perpetrators around the world.

The webinar is open to the public: $10 general public, $5 students and seniors, $25 for Minnesota lawyers for 2 ‘elimination of bias’ CLE credits (pending), and free to Mitchell Hamline law students. Clock hours are available for Minnesota teachers, nurses, and social workers. This is a ‘live’ program, and a recording will not be available.

Co-Sponsors: Anti-Defamation League, Midwest Chapter; CHAIM - Children of Holocaust Survivors Association in Minnesota; CGS – MN, Citizens for Global Solutions; Congregation Shir Tikvah; Lutheran Church of the Redeemer; Minnesota Chapter, Federal Bar Association; Minnesota Council of Churches; Minnesota Justice Foundation; Minnesota Nurses Association; Mitchell Hamline School of Law; Mt.
