LGBTQ+ individuals and Roma communities continue to face discrimination and unequal treatment in the Czech Republic. The Roma have a long history of persecution and were victims of genocide during World War II. In the Czech Republic, Roma women were subjected to forced sterilization, while the formerly nomadic Roma population was pressured to adopt a sedentary lifestyle. Transgender people have also faced forced sterilization, as Czech law historically required sterilization and gender-affirming surgery for legal recognition of their gender.
