Details

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has ruled Uganda since 1986. In January 2026, the country held elections largely considered to be manipulated. Repression by the Ugandan police and security forces continue to target minority ethnic groups and political opponents, including former presidential candidate Bobi Wine. Under the 2023 Anti-Homosexuality Act, LGBTQ+ individuals face heightened violence from both the police and members of the public.
