Details

In 2013 Nicolás Maduro became President of Venezuela following Hugo Chávez’s death. Maduro’s party has gained control of most governmental institutions, moving Venezuela away from democracy toward authoritarian rule. The rise in inflation and the persecution of political opponents have resulted in over 7.7 million refugees worldwide.
