Sri Lankan Civil War and Genocide Timestream

Genocide Watch staff have published the twenty-ninth Timestream in a series of critical genocides in the world.

This Timestream discusses the Sri Lankan Civil War (1983-2009), which was built upon long-brewing ethnic tensions between the Tamil minority and the Sinhalese majority. Both the Sinhalese state and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam committed atrocities during the war, though Tamil civilians made up the majority of the victims. The alleged mass killing of Tamils by the Sinhalese government and allied armed groups has been described as genocide, a characterization that the Sri Lankan government denies.
