Details
Tribal and gang violence, known locally as Raskol is widespread throughout Papua New Guinea (PNG). A large supply of firearms, environmental destruction, and slim economic opportunities have help fuel this violence. Women, children, and LGBTQ+ are at huge risk for assault, robbery, and murder. From 1988-1998, The PNG government led a large-scale invasion of the separatist island of Bouganville, using scorched-earth tactics to defeat the Bougainville Revolutionary Army (BRA).
