Details

Qatar has faced international condemnation for ongoing human rights abuses. Demands for reform have focused on Qatar’s exploitative treatment of migrant workers through the kafala labor system, restrictions on public expression, threats of arbitrary arrest, and insufficient protection of women’s rights. Global attention has especially drawn to Qatar's patterns of exploitation of migrant workers after the nation's hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which led to over 6,500 worker deaths and thousands still awaiting proper compensation for injury and/or work.
