Details

Trinidad and Tobago faces serious gang violence, organized crime and social inequality. Criminal gangs exploit poverty and weak public services to recruit young people and control vulnerable communities. Women, LGBT+ people, people with disabilities and migrants also face violence, discrimination or exploitation. Although the government has taken security measures, concerns remain about unequal access to justice and human rights. Genocide Watch identifies risks involving the organization of criminal networks, discrimination and persecution, and recommends stronger law enforcement, youth support and protection for victims.
