Détails
Under the 1997 Basic Law of the HKSAR (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), Hong Kong was granted relative political and economic freedom from China until 2047. However, China has since encroached on these civil rights. The passage of the National Security Law in 2020 has restricted protest activity and voting rights. Crackdowns on freedom of press, expression, as well as persecution of democrats in Hong Kong soon followed, and remain an ongoing process today. China now has direct legal control over Hong Kong.
