Taiwan reports 9 nationals missing in China during past week

Officials have been warning travelers about China's new exit and entry rules
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Nine Taiwanese went missing in China last week, taking the total since Jan. 2024 to 440, the Mainland Affairs Council said Saturday.
The total also included people believed to have been detained or in other ways prevented from moving or returning home to Taiwan, per Liberty Times. The latest data release came as officials called for increased vigilance ahead of new Chinese exit and entry regulations.
The council list counted cases from Jan. 1, 2024 until Friday. There were 163 Taiwanese who lost contact with the outside world, an increase of two over the previous week, 36 who were forced to stay in place, and 241 who were detained. Over the past week, there was an increase of seven detentions, while two people previously listed as missing were found to have been detained.
The council said it had not discovered any evidence of links between disappearances and an alleged scheme to send Taiwanese jobseekers to China for organ harvesting.
